Not all humans are stepping out of this reality. Not all are meant to. But for some, humans, animals, even plants, something has shifted. Illness, grief, or a deep internal dissonance has begun to stir. The old ways of being no longer fit, but the new ones haven’t arrived. These beings are not dying, but neither are they living in the old world as they once did. They are bridge dwellers, called into the space-between, where the body, the spirit, and the timeline itself begin to adapt to something unknown. This series is for those beings. Each piece explores a resonance, a sound, a presence, a plant, a frequency, that helps us survive and stay intact while the path reforms beneath us.

Marlene: Mullein the Bridge Herb

1. Name and Essence of the Ally

She came into my life as Mullein, a very masculine, Saturnian plant, but she stepped onto the bridge as Marlene - spell checkers can be very persuasive! Tall, soft-spoken, unassuming, quietly radiant, and immensely strong. There is a stillness in her presence, like someone who knows how to wait. I’ve always sensed her as a plant who listens more than she speaks, but lately, she’s been speaking more. As if she’s answering a call.

2. Current 3D Attributes

Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) is a tall, biannual plant with a central flowering spike and large, woolly leaves. Common in disturbed soils, roadsides, and meadows, she thrives where the land has been disrupted. Traditionally used in teas, oils, and smoke blends, she’s associated with respiratory healing, lung softening, and inflammation relief.

3. Known Healing Skills

Mullein is a beloved herb in folk and herbal medicine. Her leaves are demulcent and expectorant, used to soothe the respiratory tract, especially in chronic bronchitis, asthma, and dry cough. Her flowers are infused in oil to treat ear infections. She has an affinity for air and breath, she clears, soothes, and restores the pathway between inner and outer worlds.

She’s long been used in smoke form as a respiratory purifier and ritual herb, often burned to clear bad air, both literally and spiritually.

4. Interdimensional Skills

Mullein has always been a boundary plant. She grows where the land is recovering, where things are unsettled. She’s tall, candle-like, often called the “torch plant” or “hag’s taper”, a symbol of illumination. She has been used in spirit work and folk magic to light the way for the dead, or to protect those traveling in dream or trance.

There’s something about her woolly texture that suggests buffering, insulation, a gentle filter between worlds. She doesn’t tear the veil, she makes it breathable.

5. Why She’s on the Bridge

Marlene is no longer here just to ease coughs. She’s stepped forward now as a guide for those struggling to breathe in the thinning air between realities. The lungs are the first to struggle when the world becomes energetically uninhabitable. She’s not just a healer of lungs, she’s become a translator of frequencies. She helps bridge dwellers breathe when the atmosphere itself no longer matches the body.

She brings coherence when the inner world and outer reality fall out of sync. Her role now is resonant attunement, reminding the body how to breathe in an atmosphere that is still forming.

She’s not here to return you to the world you came from. She’s here to keep you alive until the new air arrives.

6. Closing Reflection

Marlene walks with the bridge dwellers like a quiet nurse in a collapsed hospital. She offers no cure, only breath. But breath, it turns out, is the first and last thing you need. She does not speak loudly. She does not demand belief. But if you hold her close, or sip her gently, she’ll remind your body that the new world is already growing inside you, one inhale at a time.
